Musing:

The definition of musing is "to think about in some depth". Now, I don't know just how "deep" my musings will seem to anyone. Most of them come to me on the run amidst the hectic days of cooking, cleaning, schooling, wiping runny noses, and changing what seems to be the bazillionth diaper of the day. But, hopefully someone will make some sense out of, maybe benefit from, and just might snicker at the premenapausal hormonal thoughts that come from the muddled musing of a mom of 14 kids!

Heart Failure!

Literally......I almost had heart failure today thanks to my trio of Downy Angels :-). The weather is just beautiful here today and we have our windows and doors open. My 10 yo daughter was out on the front porch with the Downy trio. She had had her spirit wounded by my oldest son who had yelled at her for causing me to have to tell our daughter in the Ukraine, on Skype, something that we had not planned to tell her until she arrived home. While I was out on the front porch with all of them apologizing to her for my role in him getting so upset with her (I had told him what she had done) and asking her to forgive me (this child does not wound easily and I felt he had done it too harshly), I saw the trio walk off the porch and around to the driveway of our home. I walked back inside to tell my son that he too needed to apologize to my daughter for wounding her (she thinks the world and all of him), I then turned to look outside in the back to see where the girls had gone. The first thing I spied was the pool deck door open!!! I ran out the door calling to them and looking all around. I didn't see them. My son was out there by now.....I ran up onto the deck and looked into the water which is like pea soup and you cannot see under the water. I FREAKED OUT!! I ran down and to the front where my daughter is still sitting...no little girls. I ran into the house (you have to understand that this somewhat incontinent premenapausal mama DOES NOT run!)calling and I still don't see them. My son keeps saying "calm down mom they're around here".....I kept pleading........son please get something and look down under the water.....calling and calling them........please son please.....Mom, calm down.........please son (you know, with a hoarse, thick, pinched off voice because you're throat is almost frozen with fear, because I'M almost frozen with fear?)!! Finally, I make myself run upstairs, crazed with fear I scan the big room. No girls, total quiet. I opened the middle girl's closed door to see them all three happily playing (where they should not have been)!!!! I grabbed my 2 yo and burst into tears dragging them all downstairs with me....collapsed on the couch and had a good cry. My son said, "mom you've got to stop doing this you're going to give yourself a heart attack!!" I just kept babbling over and over, "you can't see under the water, you can't see under the water".

Thirteen years ago, we knew a family whose son drown in their pond you couldn't see under the water in. It's something you never get over. It still haunts me today.

I think this trio may just do me in someday....but they sure are cute! :-)

Coming up for air....

I'm digging out from under a TON of paperwork to write a quick post. I'm deeply entrenched in my annual self imposed enprisonment chained to my computer. Several years ago, we took over the running of our homeschool group's annual Track and Field Day. I have to admit I reluctantly began this journey with my husband (it was HIS idea ) and I quickly found out the "us" running the trackmeet meant "I" did all the work of organizing, typing, printing, figuring out the schedule, sending emails, ordering medals and ribbons, getting clipboards ready, and stuffing family envelopes, etc. Then, on the day of the trackmeet, hubby dons his sunglasses, starting pistol, and walkie talkies to "run" the trackmeet :-). Thankfully, I do have several older children who are willing to help and to whom I am very grateful, but all the actual time at the computer doing all the paperwork still falls to me. For a week before the meet, I literally spend countless hours at this computer while my household crumbles around me (it seems ). Each year I swear I'm not going to do this again next year, but next year rolls around and somehow I just can'd stand the thought of denying my children this fun day that they look forward to, along with many others as well (you see, we're convinced NO ONE will step up to the plate and take it over, or we're just too egotistical to let them ). So, each year I trudge to the store, load up on the ink, and begin my vigil at my computer while my legs swell, my shoulders cramp, and my head aches.....gosh, that's not a pretty picture is it?! Oh well, I know it's worth it, cause we're "making memories"...right?
